To be whatever I want to be (fad) FW 25”

To be who I want to be. This look was originally based off of the use of jackets and trench coats being a sign of uniform in history. The base of this idea is driven by this in the sense of emulating a boys school uniform in the UK. The uniform has been modified which is a very common activity during childhood years for children who are going to uniform schools. Children modify their uniforms so that they can stand out, express their personalities, and be whoever they want to be. Tied in with this idea of childhood, there are dreams. The infinite dreams that kids have before their imaginations are brought down by societal expectations, norms, and reality. This infinite possibilities of who you could be is emulated through fairytale based concepts within this piece. The cape (used to be the collar lining) being a superhero, The mask (used to be the arms) being a roman gladiator (as my cousin used to love to dress up as when he was little), and the wings (used to be the shoulder pads), which represent the blossoming into beauty of the ugly ducking.

what we judge from a comformative mind (fad) FW 25”

This reversible jacket is inspired by the divide between the rich and homeless in the city of Los Angeles. For the nine years I lived in the city, I was shown the lives of the rich and poor of the city. I found that there is a heavy judgment that is placed by the people who are successors of the city, about what people look like. To be able to fit in the lines of community this city has, you have to look presentable. This jacket is made completely out of the materials that you may find around one of the homeless people in this city and reverses to become what people may deem as “socially expectable”..

death. life. rebirth (fad) FW 25”

This three piece styling exhibit offers a view into our universal human experience of understanding our mortality. This piece of work is inspired by a varied collection of religious and mythological figures that people believe to be guardians, angels, and monuments of death and mortality. Our mortality is something that a lot of us fear. Something that seems nerve racking, daunting, and mysterious. It seems to be the mystery of it all that makes us fear it the most. The idea that we have no clue how it feels since there is no one that can retell the event to us. Nevertheless, that is the beauty of it. Epicurus states that since we do not come out the other side of death, since it is not something that we experience, how can it be bad? (sited in research). This shows a sense of peace and beauty to the idea and puts a light on a new understanding of the subject. This is exactly what this collective of pieces aims to show. The beauty and the peace. The human nature of it all, and the cycle of life, interpreted in a non bias format to any religion or belief. Life, death, and reincarnation in a form.

star physique: mega man (fad) FW 25”

Through my life, my father has always been muscular but what told me that he was strong was his mind. Inspired my my Japanese heritage and how my mother raised me, this look aims to depict that even though I have learnt and gained many amazing beliefs and morals from my mother and heritage, going to the gym with my dad and building physical strength became my way to believe in not only myself but also my capabilities.
