DYE RIVER DIE

Textile factories often sit next to rivers so they can dispose of toxic dye easily. The design started off all white, pure and innocent like a healthy aquatic lifeform in a clean oxygen rich river.

Then I invited people to spill dye over the look to symbolize the pollution issue.

A representation of consumers being addicted to buying. The bulk of the skirt is made of a huge mass of clothes literally ‘chained’ to it. I then used ‘gold’ spray to create a ‘deteriorated’ feel that symbolizes the thin layer of ‘shine’ masking the waste behind it all.

ONLY AN ANIMAL

The red cloak made of rags symbolizes the blood, sweat and tears of textile factory workers. The deer head symbolizes helpless prey that’s being treated less than human. In the photo I wanted to make it look like a pool of blood.

FABRIC FIRE

In many poor countries people burn cheap blocks of fabric scraps instead of firewood in their houses. The gas mask and black lungs in the design represent the toxic fumes people inhale and the lung diseases they suffer. The crochet strings around the body symbolize decay and deterioration.
