process and research

I started my research by collecting images of classic Japanese designs, artifacts and symbols that look ancient but also contemporary. On the right are pattern inspirations, draping ideas and rough sketches of objects from the V&A museum.

Silhouette collages, along with some more detailed sketches and my garment idea. I wanted to include the renowned world of Japanese denim within my piece (hence the blue color swatches) and appliques of Japanese Kamon (Family Crests) and Kabuki Mask.

I used a base t-shirt shape and a base pant shape to base my patterns on. I then modified them to create my look as can be seen on the right hand side. After creating the sketches and measuring my dimensions, I created the patterns (upper left hand).
