Our prompt for this project was “Foreigners Everywhere”. I wanted to play at the extremes of societal conformity and stereotypes in Japan by re-imagining the kimono and expressing it in street style. What ‘society’ rejects is only everything they know and accept arranged in a new way.

Essay/Research paper and visual interpretation about the damaging effects of the fast-fashion industry on people and the environment around the globe. The main focus of this project is on raising awareness. I only used recycled clothes and fabric scraps, found objects and trash. I planned an interactive catwalk with video projections for it as well.

The brief was to upcycle a tshirt given to us and say something about ourselves with the design. My design is called SEE(THROUGH)ME. Sometimes I feel people stare at me and judge but at the same time I don’t feel seen. It makes me feel like a clown (collar). The embroidered eyes represent people watching.
